Transport will be provided from the centre of Leiden to the school each day, and back to Leiden at the end of the day. This information is for when you arrive in the Netherlands or if you miss the daily bus pick up times.
Getting to ASH (American School of The Hague) and Leiden from Schiphol Airport by taxi/ train/ bus.
From Schiphol Airport, a taxi ride to ASH (in Wassenaar) will cost approximately €60 – €70 and will take about 30 minutes. The official taxi rank is directly outside the main entrance to the Airport building. The address of the school is Rijksstraatweg 200, 2241BX, Wassenaar.
A taxi from Schiphol Airport to Leiden Central Station costs about €40 and takes 20 to 30 minutes depending on traffic and the time of day.
You can also get to ASH (in Wassenaar) by train to Leiden Central Station and then take a bus or taxi to the school. Trains are cheap, efficient and the most common means of transport … after bicycles. To get a train ticket at Schiphol use the ticket machines in the baggage hall or follow the signs to “Trains” and get one at a machine or a ticket counter in the main hall. Buy a one-way ticket from Schiphol to Leiden Central Station. This will cost approximately €7 one-way.
Trains leave from Platforms 5/6 directly under the airport building approximately every 15 minutes, the journey to Leiden takes 15 minutes. In the central hall of the airport you will see the escalators down to the platforms. You must remember to scan your ticket on the pink and white portion of the scanners before you go down the escalators.
Once on platform 5/6 the electronic boards will tell you at which platform the next train is arriving. The trains go in the direction of The Hague, Delft, Rotterdam, Dordrecht and all stop at Leiden Central Station before those towns. You have to scan your ticket in order to activate the exit doors at the station.
From Leiden Station, take a taxi or bus to the school.
Bus No.43 from Leiden Central Station to the school
Bus Number 43 from outside Leiden Central Station will get you to the back gate of the school. Walk across the road, through the bicycle shed and turn right to get to the main school building entrance.
Buses leave Leiden every half hour at :17 and :47 past the hour. The cost will be approximately €3 from Leiden to Wassenaar and the journey takes 15-20 minutes.
You can buy your tickets on the bus from the bus driver. Simply tell the driver that you are going to the American School in Wassenaar. The name of the stop is called Wassenaar, Ammonslaantje.
Note: Always exit out of the doors in the middle of the bus!
