Page Fragments and Insertion Points – Adam Larsen
Page fragments and insertion points allow customizers to modify PowerSchool without making changes directly to pages.  This allows schools, third-party developers, and consultants to work together without colliding with each other’s changes.  This class will cover the basics of page fragments and how they can be used to create future-proof customizations.

Standards Setup and Management – Romy Backus
Come to this session to learn how to set up and manage standards in PowerSchool. We will cover grade scales, calculation methods, importing, and how the data is used and viewed by administrators, teachers, parents, and students.

Student Searches – Tera Roblyer
Do you want to know more about searching student records? This hands-on session will provide suggestions for performing basic searches, using search commands, compound searches and search codes. You will also learn how to save stored searches and selections and the difference between the two. Time will also be spent using special functions to search for gpa, grades/attendance, perfect attendance and log entries.

Unified Classroom – Sam Sale
Come to this session to learn about the Unified Classroom, the future of PowerSchool SIS. The Unified Classroom brings together PowerSchool SIS, PowerTeacher Pro, PowerSchool Learning, and PowerSchool Assessment into a single unified interface that provides easy access to all of these separate systems.

PowerQueries and Data Export Manager  – Adam Larsen
This session shows the usefulness of creating PowerQueries. PowerQueries are great for accessing your data from external applications, in the Data Export Manager, and in your own custom pages. Starting with “What is a PowerQuery?” we will learn how to create PowerQueries and implement them into a custom page. PowerSchool includes a built-in grid widget based on AngularJS. Learn how to create a custom page with an interactive grid that is both sortable and searchable. (some SQL knowledge is a help)

Student Contacts (Intro) – Julie Woestman
Do you have a lot of custom fields that hold student contacts’ data? What’s the best way to manage the transition to the new Student Contacts feature to ensure clean data and minimal confusion? How do you import new contacts rather than having to enter them manually? Come to this session to learn the answer to all these questions and more.

Courses, Students, and Sections, Oh My! – Tera Roblyer
Learn how to create and manage courses, create sections with the various settings that come into play, and different methods of adding and dropping students. We will learn what to do when future attendance blocks a student from being dropped, how to clean up overlapping section enrollments, reset class counts when necessary, change the entry date for a class to the future to be in line with school enrollments, and many more tips and tricks for ensuring clean data.

This time will be dedicated to the formation of a European PSUG Board which will carry the conference leadership and planning onwards into future years.

This session will dive more deeply into strategies for managing and consolidating contacts, resolving common issues, as well as walking through how to customize the student contacts pages to add custom fields.

EOY/SOY Process – Romy Backus
One of the biggest responsibilities of a PowerSchool Administrator is ensuring that the End-of-Year Process (aka rollover) goes smoothly and that everything is ready in the system for the new school year. We’ll walk through the timeline of tasks that need to be completed as well as look at some other tips and tricks that can save you time and hassle.

PowerSchool API and PowerQueries – Chris Walberg, intellimedia (remote)
Accessing data in a structured manageable way: learn about the capabilities of the PowerSchool API including the addition of PowerQueries to access the PowerSchool data in a maintainable way.  A common documented approach for external data access, integrations and customizations. This is an advanced class.

PowerTeacher Pro: Teachers – Sam Sale

Understand the key pieces of the PowerSchool puzzle that lead to the grade results you see in Historical Grades and on transcripts. Learn how terms, grading periods, course structure, grade scale setup, gradebook configuration and the storing process all come together.

PowerTeacher Pro – System Administrators  – Julie Woestman
Learn all about PowerTeacherPro, PowerSchool’s latest Gradebook. Discuss best practices for the transition from PowerTeacher Gradebook, back-end setup, and the roadmap for future enhancements.

Code Management – Adam Larsen
Are you managing a lot of code, in the forms of page fragments, plugins, and other customizations?  Are you sharing any of these projects with others on PowerSource Exchange or another platform?  Or are you working collaboratively with another developer to maintain your customizations?  If so, you might be overwhelmed by the sheer volume of code you have to keep track of. Projects like Git, SourceTree, and BitBucket can make this process much easier. This session will demonstrate how to leverage these free tools to keep everything straight.

Exporting – Tera Roblyer
This session will cover the basics of exporting information from PowerSchool–where to find this process, how to do a successful export and other useful tips. You will learn to export using a Quick Export, setup and use export templates and see how to export from the DDE. Requirements: Must have access to DDE and Quick Export on your system.

Common Session (Day 2)

Roundtable Discussion – All Presenters and Attendees
This time will be dedicated to discussing key issues and topics that concern all international users of PowerSchool in a roundtable format. Some sample topics might include: parent communication and portal experiences, reporting and digital report cards, transportation with complex requirements, registration and re-enrollment, managing extra-curricular activities, and GDPR.

Session 6 (Day 3)

Data Automation – Adam Larsen
As schools become more data-driven in their decision making, it is becoming increasingly important to provide consistent, quality data to teachers and school administrators.  One easy way to reduce the workload this places on the IT department and to ensure data integrity is to automate routine tasks.  Do you have reports that need to be run at the same time each week?  Schedule a job to run and e-mail a file without human input at regular intervals.  Attendees will learn about tools for scheduling tasks, queries that change behavior depending on the time of year, and tips for “set-it-and-forget-it” data schedules.  This session will walk users through the Navicat program, but skills and approaches learned here can be generalized to other software packages. Intended audience: PowerSchool system administrators. Requirements: working knowledge of SQL

Building a Simple Plugin from Start to Finish – Romy Backus
This session will walk through how Romy built her Student Directory plugin from start to finish. We will look at how to adjust an Angular template with your own sql query, pass gpvs into popups, borrow code from other parts of PS to make things easier, and build a page fragment. Finally, we’ll learn about packaging all of the code up into a plugin for easy installation and sharing.

Importing – Tera Roblyer
Tips for getting data in safely and painlessly. PowerSchool’s import function can be a powerful way to load data from other systems and even to clean the data you already have. But along with that power comes some potential “gotchas” and the ability to do some damage. This session will share tips on how to import data while avoiding pain, disaster, and unnecessary work.

Session 7 (Day 3)

Course Prerequisites, Teacher Recommendations and Student Course Selection – Greg Satterwhite
Come to this session to learn how to set up course prerequisites, train teachers to enter course recommendations for students, and finally how all these pieces fit together in allowing students to select and submit their course requests from the student portal in preparation for scheduling season.

Attendance: SIS and Performance Matters Analytics – Sam Sale
Exactly what it sounds like! Learn all about correct attendance setup and usage in PowerSchool and which methods are the best for you.  Find today’s absentee information and run reports on attendance summaries and totals over time. At the end of the session, learn how attendance can be displayed alongside assessment data in PowerSchool’s Performance Matters Analytics product.

Data Dashboards – Adam Larsen
Have you ever found yourself making the same Excel charts over and over again in order to stay current with ever-changing data?  Have you ever wondered if there was a way to create graphs of live data right in in PowerSchool?  Open Source visualization APIs provide a free way to develop simple graphs of realtime data and embed them into HTML pages.  This session will introduce attendees to the some API documentation and demonstrate some examples of where these tools could come in handy.

Language Translation Toolkit – Romy Backus
Learn the power of PowerSchool’s LTK tool, particularly how to change PowerSchool terminology and fields to fit your school’s preferences without customization! You’ll also learn how to assign localization capabilities to a group of users, how LTK and custom pages interact, and a handful of tips and tricks.

This session will bring you up to speed on user access roles, page permissions, best practices for managing the intersection of group and roles, field level security, document attachment security, and more. Come learn critical information for keeping your system secure and also how to take advantage of the greatly expanded flexibility PowerSchool now offers.

Excel for PowerSchool – Tera Roblyer
In this session we’ll dive into skills for using Excel with PowerSchool data, including: Basics of a spreadsheet; columns, rows, cells, page set up and views, workbooks and worksheets. A look at the types of Data; text, numbers, labels, constants, variables. Using Formulas; basics, cell referenced, absolute referencing. A close look at built in FUNCTIONS by category, including the Function Wizard. Copying formulas and FUNCTIONS using fill down, fill right, auto fill and absolute positioning. Filtering and sorting data; Find and Replace; Formatting text, numbers and cells; inserting an image, inserting columns and rows; inserting charts and graphs; Opening PS exports and saving in a variety of different file formats.

This is unstructured time to work one-on-one with all the trainers and your fellow attendees to address topics that are specific to your server or that came up in sessions, and get all your questions answered!
